Prahlad Rao pkalyanrao@kau.edu.sa Rami A. Al-Homouz ralhmouz@kau.edu.sa
Walking or gait is the systematic study of human locomotion using visual observation, video cameras, sensors or combination of these technologies. Abnormalities of the gait can be observed in obese, Parkinson’s disease and those having biomechanical disorders. Obesity may be considered as a complicated disease and situation which leads to major health problems. During walking, the joints of lower extremities are subjected to enormous forces and moments. Experimentally the walking of normal and obese subjects was video recorded by Microsoft Kinect camera. Simultaneously, the EMG (electromyography) signals were measured by Delsys Trigono EMG instrument through its electrodes placed over gastrocnemius muscles of the leg. Both the measured data was stored in the computer and analyzed. It has observed that the knee flexion angle is smaller by 30 % than the normal subjects of the same age group. Therefore, the knee flexion angle could be used as a biomechanical parameter to distinguish between normal and obese people which could help them to control the obesity, otherwise more serious health complications are possible.
2020-12-11T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2021 Journal of Computers & Signals (JCS) https://rsepress.org/index.php/jcs/article/view/25 A Hybrid Mobile Application for an e-Commerce Store 2020-10-07T20:40:03+00:00 Abdulkader Mohamed Sandouka abdulkader.sand@gmail.com
The use of the Internet has increased dramatically among people and has become reliable in all areas of life. The most successful one among others is e-Commerce/e-Marketing. E-commerce techniques allow the development of relationship with customers to such a level not previously reported. The reason is the process of purchase, distribution, shopping, demand and production are found in a modern mechanism which is no longer as it was in the traditional process. Therefore, many small business organizations, as like as large ones, are considering e-commerce mobile application as a better technological choice for developing and maintaining customer relationship. This paper proposes a hybrid e-commerce store mobile application for selling of products or services over the Internet that can operate on different operating systems such as windows, iOS, and android.
2020-12-11T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Journal of Computers & Signals (JCS) https://rsepress.org/index.php/jcs/article/view/27 Popularly used Signal Processing and Analysis Techniques for Biomedical Signals 2020-12-10T07:51:32+00:00 Shabbir Chowdhury chowdhuryshabbir99@gmail.com K. Prahlad Rao pkalyanrao@kau.edu.sa
Human life is precious. It is often encountered by many diseases posing the physicians' new challenges every time in their treatment, such for example COVID-19. Unless the root cause of the disease is known clearly, it is difficult to plan for its treatment. A thorough understanding is possible only when the biological signals are observed and analyzed clearly. For this purpose, technology plays an important role in the handling of the signals. Biomedical signal acquisition, processing, and analysis are the prime stages in the diagnosis of any disease. In this paper, a few advanced signal processing methods have been discussed. Each method has merits and demits but, a particular method of interest depends on the computational time, algorithm implementation, and the device cost. The methods explained here are not just limited rather several algorithms are available in the literature. However, the methods explained in this paper gives a basic understanding of each technique with suitable examples.
2020-12-11T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Journal of Computers & Signals (JCS) https://rsepress.org/index.php/jcs/article/view/20 Development of Smartphone App for Tele-Care Medicine 2020-10-01T22:10:48+00:00 Eng. Most of the developed countries also have serious health care issues in their rural areas because of the lesser density of physicians in such places. Despite this, information technology and mobile communication devices are growing rapidly. This technology has been successfully tapped by online shopping business giants. If the same technology is extended effectively to health care applications, then the world-wide scarcity of medical practitioners would be improved so that the larger wait of outpatients in the hospitals can be reduced. To serve this purpose, we developed mobile phone application software for Android devices. There are two separate apps; one for the doctor and another to the patient. Without the traditional method of consultations between the patient and the doctor, many health problems can be treated by monitoring the vital signs through these mobile apps. The software allows attaching medical images also along with the vital signs as text values. The medical data can be sent to the selected doctor by the patient through the web, after logging into the app. The doctor can suggest the course of treatment by typing the text in his app. Both apps were tested for their performance and security issues.
2020-10-05T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Journal of Computers & Signals (JCS) https://rsepress.org/index.php/jcs/article/view/18 Trajectory Path Tracking Evaluation of Smart Wheelchair By Image Processing Technique 2020-09-20T20:17:40+00:00 Eng. Nadr Saleh Alenzi pkalyanrao@kau.edu.sa Dr. K. Prahlad Rao prahladk@gmail.com
Electrically powered wheelchair has basically two features, one is mechanical based movement system, and another is electrical drive to ease maneuvering rather than manually driven by assistant. In smart wheelchairs, third feature is added that would further simplify driving of powered wheelchair by conventional methods. In the recent years, IoT (Internet-of-Things) are dramatically changing the lifestyle of people which are being used not only for entertainment but also for actuating external devices as per their requirements. Smart phones are almost commonly being used by many people since they are affordable and are being added with multiple features like camera, video games, messaging, navigation facility and many more. We have previously developed a mobile phone application software to control the movement of an electrically powered wheelchair, thus making it as a smart wheelchair. In this paper, we reported the performance evaluation of the wheelchair control through the mobile app. A reference trajectory path was marked on the floor area and a route map was prepared on the Google Maps browser in the smart phone. The user of the wheelchair navigated its movement between source and destination points on the map to follow the reference track. The motion of wheelchair and the track was captured in a video clip. Then, by image processing technique, the wheelchair movement was tracked. It has been observed that during perpendicular turnings like corners inside the buildings or turnings on roads, there were slight deviations of the wheelchair with respect to the reference path. However, this can be minimized by proper training to the person using the smart wheelchair.
2020-09-20T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2020 Journal of Computers & Signals (JCS)
